Gratin Dauphinois 

(Serves 6 as a side or 4 light lunch)
 
Ingredients:

340 ml whole milk
4 garlic cloves Chopped
1x 284 carton double cream
3 lb of potatoes peeled and sliced about 1/4 inch
8 oz mild cheddar cheese grated
Pepper to taste
1 deep ovenproof gratin dish about 12x8.
 
Method:

1. Turn on the oven 190C gas 5.
2. Layer the potatoes in gratin dish
3. Put the milk in a saucepan with garlic and bring to the boil
4. Turn the heat down
5. Add the cream and pepper
6. Then add half of the cheese and stir until thick and creamy
7. Pour the cheese mixture over the potatoes
8. Bake in the middle of the oven for about 40-50 minutes or until cooked
