"When I taste real Rioja, carefully, traditionally made, without any grand pretensions, I can look back almost as long as I've been drinking wine, because in the dark days when reds were thin and sour, Rioja was the opposite. Creamy, gentle, soft, squashy strawberry fruit swathed in vanilla, perhaps the bitter-sweet crack of cherry stones to provide just a hint of toughness.
